Point Activities

5 point and significant 1 point activities described below:

Officer of Japan Club

(5 point)

Academic Mentor at Project Panther LIFE

(5 point)

In Spring 2017, I became the Secretary and was responsible for sending emails to club members, reaching out to other organizations, and communicating information to the e-board. In Fall 2017, I was given the additional title of Vice-President and assumed more responsibilities in the club. In Spring 2018, I became the President of Japan Club and helped run Cool Japan, which is essentially a Japanese convention that features traditional and pop culture performances, foods, games, and more. I also was responsible for forming a new e-board and organized their transition into office. In my final semester at FIU, I assumed the title of Ambassador, through which I helped the new e-board assimilate and helped reach out to previous sponsors for events.

I was an Academic Mentor for a student enrolled in the program. This program's goal is to help students with Intellectual Disabilities obtain experience attending University courses and completing coursework as any other FIU student would. My role was to assist the student in completing assignments and organize their workload to best fit their productivity. I also served as a role model by influencing the student to create positive study habits and increase work ethic.

Cool Japan (1 point)

As mentioned above, I helped organize Cool Japan in 2017 and 2018. Cool Japan is a collaboration with various clubs on campus that hosts Japanese performers and companies from all over South Florida to represent Japanese culture and innovations. Students from FIU as well as the general public are invited to experience Japan with us. I have run the Video Games section both years, but last Cool Japan I was also responsible for managing each section and ensuring a smooth operation.

Spirit of the Ainu

(1 point)

The Ainu are the original indigenous group of Northern Japan. A group of them came to FIU to speak about their lifestyle and beliefs, as well as give a taste of their music and dance and the significance behind them. This event was eye-opening as I have never met people from an indigenous group or seen their traditions so up close and personal. After this event, I was able to attend another event where they answered the audience's questions and got to learn more about them.
